Adaptive reuse & Public buildings

NOA Architecten is an architectural practice based in Brussels and Bruges, founded in 1999 by An Fonteyne, Jitse van den Berg and Philippe Viérin. The practice often concentrates on public buildings dealing with complex programmes in historical city centres which are protected. They believe that when a building is truly sustainable - environmentally and economically, it ensures mental and physical appreciation from a wide range of people. When a building becomes a positive part of the collective memory of a city, people will care about it and respect it. A wide range of public projects are engaged in, ranging from museums, educational institutions, housing, industrial, wellness and others. Many of these are existing public structures of the city that are adaptively reused to a similar or new function.

With the office, a number of projects were undertaken including Renovation of the House of James Ensor (a Belgian painter) and extension to the visitors centre, Rauterpark, a public villa in the park, Coda, a palliative care centre, and Kanal, a landmark museum for the city of Brussels. Images shown here are of the completed Ensor House in Ostend.

Luxury Residences

Matharoo associates is an architectural practice based in Ahmedabad, founded in 1991 by Gurjit Singh Matharoo. He believes that an important function of architecture is to create delight. It must elevate a person from a normal level of existence to a higher self. His buildings are witty, innovative and playful and he loves experimenting with new structural ideas. The practice believe in a clear emphasis of functionality and services, in exercising an extreme restraint whenever designing and using natural exposed materials where sunlight becomes the only embellishment as it varies and changes through the day and across the seasons. Their buildings are designed to be discovered; as one moves through them they unfold around one’s body to reveal their secrets and meanings over time and over spatial layers.

The office undertakes design work ranging from architecture, structural design and master-planning to product and automobile design. They see all design disciplines as one, removing boundaries and working with a fully combined approach. Public and private commissions, ranging from the expensive to the inexpensive including hospitals, schools, institutions, residences and automotives among others, are undertaken.

With the office, a number of projects were undertaken including a private luxury residence and a school. Images shown here are of the completed private residence in Ahmedabad.

Sustainability & Community

Mistry Architects is an architectural practice based in Bangalore founded in 1980 by Sharukh Mistry and his wife Renu Mistry. Sharukh’s architectural philosophy is much like his personality - caring, affectionate, sustainable and inclusive. The practice has a  tireless endeavour towards holistic architecture which is inspired by the relationship between man and nature. They are committed to the belief that cities and the structures they contain must be in balance with the earth and use resources in ways that are sustainable over time.

They recognize that architecture captures the relationship formed when people interface with their environment and strive to create places for people to connect with the community, the built and the natural environment. Architecture must be in balance with the earth and its resources - to never take more than you can give. The belief is not only that of green design, but more fundamentally, an architecture with heart. Public and private commissions, ranging from retail, commercial, schools, insitutions, residences, retreats, and non-profit work, among others, are undertaken.

With the office, a number of projects were undertaken including the alternative Agastya International Foundation School in Chittoor, renovation of a private residence in Bangalore, and high-end community leisure developments in Koorgahalli Images shown here are of the completed Auditorium at Agastya.
